Congratulations on deciding to do your part in fighting crime in South Africa!  You are only 3 steps away from doing your bit....

What is Tagga?

In short, when you are a victim of theft, the first thing you want to do is publish what was stolen so that anyone (with morals) can check before purchasing the "second hand" goods.

One way of doing that is to go onto the radio/mass media and tell everyone - this obviously could work, but this is difficult and has a limited, and once-off audience.

A better way of doing it would be to make a record (on the web site) of all the serial numbers etc. of your valuable possessions and when anything gets stolen you flag these items as stolen on the web site so any potential purchaser can search before purchasing.  A reward can also be offered for the return of the goods!

Second hand stores like Cash Converters etc. are being encouraged to use the web site (for free) and check before purchasing the goods.

Tagga makes it easy to:

1) use the site to "remember" the serial  numbers and report these to the police or other parties.

2) then tag your items as stolen immediately after  an unfortunate incident.

Second hand goods dealer can then use the system to ensure that they purchase goods that are not reported as stolen.

Criminals will then find it more difficult (and soon... it’s up to you: they'll find it impossible) to sell their stolen bounty!

Here are the 3 steps to do your part in fighting crime in South Africa:

1) Register.... This can be done on the Tagga home page: either click on the large “Register” word at the bottom of this page or use the link under the “Login Form”.  Provide your Name, email address and password.    Once you have registered, you will receive an email so that you can activate your account.  Registration is now FREE.  No fees, no catch.  A true community service.

2) Add items to your inventory.... Now that you’ve registered you can enter your items into the Tagga database.  Note, that this is your private and secure inventory list in the system and only you can see and modify the goods in your inventory.  Only once the item is stolen do you make the item searchable.
Adding items to your Inventory is easy: Click on “
Inventory”, click on the “Add Listing” link and enter each of your item’s serial numbers and manufacturer, and other details.

Tip: the easiest way of adding items to your list is when you’ve just purchased it!  Then there’s no need to get to move the wall unit to get to the serial number of that TV!

3) Mark items as stolen or lost..... In the unfortunate event of a robbery or loss, you can go can log in to Tagga and go to the “User Menu” -> “Report Item Stolen”.  Click on the "Add Listing" link then, using the "Item description" pull‑down list: select the item that has been stolen.  Then select the date when it was stolen (using the ... button).  Click the "Save" button and that's it - your item will now be searchable by anyone wanting to purchase second hand goods. Of course, we hope that someone finds your item and we look forward to returning it to you!

Please remember that you still need to report the items stolen to SAPS and your insurance.

Thanks again for your involvement - every little bit of help WILL make SA a better place to stay.... Your family and neighbours will be safer if everyone gets involved.  Remember, to join your local neighbourhood watch and so extend your property’s perimeter security.

Even if only 1 crime is prevented, we would have gained!

By using Tagga, you combat crime. Thanks for doing your bit in making South Africa a better place to live.  Remember, we can’t do it alone – YOU need to get involved.

Pass this information on to at least 10 of your friends and neighbours - the more the system is used, the more crime will be reduced….

If everyone puts their belongings on the system before they get stolen then we can reduce crime by killing the illegal second hand goods market!
